Artist Statement

Through my glasswork I am inviting the viewer to reflect on the ongoing environmental damage caused by plastic pollution in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Massive systems of rotating currents called gyres collect plastic waste that breaks down into harmful microplastics. These tiny particles effect marine life and humans alike. Layers of glass, under delicate stringers, echo both the fleeting beauty and fragility of our oceans. The shifting colours and careful placement mirror the ever changing hues of the sea while inviting our engagement both on what we see and what lies beneath the ocean waters.
